I was even working on a werewolf/vampire story before I read Twilight... and now I don't really want to write anymore because of what Stephanie Meyer did to vampires (and, for that matter, werewolves).

Really? I mean, do you think I should go back to it sometime? I mean, I kept wanting to go back to working on it, but, y'know... the Smeyer thing. It made me feel almost... pathetic to be writing a vampire/werewolf story, after Twilight.

The thing is, my vampires aren't exactly traditional either. In my story idea, vamps are;

1.) Born, not made. Humans can't be turned into vampires
2.) A subspecies of human (Homo sapiens draculis; werewolves are Homo sapiens lycanthropa. Humans are just Homo sapiens sapiens)
3.) Able to eat and drink normal food and drinks
4.) Can be killed in normal ways, besides the typical stake-through-the-heart thing
5.) Can go out in sunlight fine (they're just very prone to sunburn)
6.) Can cross running water fine (wasn't there some legend that vampires can't cross running water?)
7.) Alive. Not dead. Not undead. Alive.

I dunno... I want to have more Dracula-like vampires, but the way my story is, it doesn't work like that. I just don't know.

But at least my vamps don't sparkle

That's fine. I mean, you aren't really changing the myth that badly, you're just going by the more old school myth whereas more people go by the new school fiction myths.
