Artist's Comments

This is an outfit I'm working on for the upcoming convention in July. I have the following pieces thus far:

-Goggles
-Gloves
-Pants
-White button-up Shirt (sleeves are going to be rolled up)
-Belts for my arms
-Boots
-Tools
-Gears (for the pants)
-Necklace (that I need to draw in.. I forgot)
-Men's belt (I got two belts for the outfit. I need to edit that)
-Dirty cloth (I got pants with pockets and I have a dirty greased up cloth to add to this.)
-Gloves

Granted, I'm waiting for most of this in the mail.

What I need are:

-Suspenders
-Belts for the gloves (I also didn't draw this in yet because I'm not sure on the design yet)
-Keys
-Antique glasses (Didn't draw this either... I will add it tomorrow)
-Antique Wrench (I'll be holding this in my hand)

Pose and costume idea thanks to :iconmizzd-stock:

Nice initial design... I've got a couple suggestions (since you asked for ideas over at steamfashion) if you don't mind.

-I like the idea of the greasy rag hanging out of your pocket... if your character is a mechanic, think about possibly adding some grease stains to the rest of your clothing to really sell the idea.
-In men's fashion, it's not traditional to wear both suspenders and a belt. Either one will function to hold your trousers up, and together they become aesthetically distracting.
-I wear eyeglasses as well (I'm blind as a bat without any corrective lenses), and I find that it generally looks best if you choose either goggles or glasses. I know a lot of people wear both, but it's never made sense to me and always seems to look a bit funny. A good alternative would be to add protective side shields to your glasses, turning them into safety glasses, and/or get a clip-on jeweler's loupe with a magnifying lens to add some steampunk to your eyeglasses.

Hope my suggestions are helpful, and good luck with your costume!

I just noticed that you've got tools hanging off of the belt... so, belt plus suspenders is okay. In that case, though, instead of wearing the belt around the waistline of the pants, you might consider slinging it lower around the hips to emphasize the toolbelt idea?

.>Thanks. My costume is almost done. I had to go away for a week and a half.. it's a long story.. so I haven't finished it. :(
